Are you reflecting with frustration?

Ah, December!  A month many coaches take to spend time reflecting on their year.  Are you reflecting?  Are you looking back at what you had wanted to get done in the way of marketing this year?  Are you finding that everything you wanted to do, hasn't happened?

I have had many new clients come to me at the end or beginning of a year, frustrated that they didn't accomplish all that they wanted to.  They thought they could do it alone.  They thought they'd have time.  Do you find yourself disappointed or frustrated that you didn't get everything done?  Don't STRESS!!!  Chill out!  Sure there may be some thoughts, choices or other distractions that got in your way.  I suspect you know what to do with those.

Here's a different perspective.  What positive things got in the way of doing your marketing?  Was it more speaking engagements than you had planned?  Did you steadily grow your client base over the year?  Maybe you spent more time with your family this year.  Maybe you traveled more.  Start looking for all the good things you were able to do this year.  Focus your energy on that and you may just find exactly what went right in your marketing this year.

Ask yourself these 5 simple questions:

1)  What allowed me to do all the positive things I did this year?

2)  What marketing strategies did I enjoy?

3)  What marketing DID I accomplish?

4)  What marketing was most effective?

5)  What did I learn about my marketing this year?

Now take those answers and start crafting your marketing plan for 2010.  If you feel you will have room, then add some of those pieces you wanted to do in 2008.  Check in with a marketing coach who can help you put your plan together, if that will help.

Then get really clear on what it's going to take for you to accomplish your new goals and keep up with your current marketing.  Do you need more specifics on technology that will support you in accomplishing your goals?  Will you need more help this year?  What kind of support will you need throughout the year to keep on track?  As a coach, you probably already know what will support you best.  Look at your budget, look at your time, look at what's worked and what hasn't.  Ask for what you need, so you can move forward with growing your business in 2010.
