Summertime Struggles: Working at Home When School’s Out

Time ManagementFor kids, summer marks a relaxed, carefree time, devoid of homework and other responsibilities. But for work-at-home entrepreneurs, it can seem virtually impossible to get things done while keeping bored, restless children entertained and stimulated. It can be tempting to play hooky and spend the day at the pool with the kids, but this can easily result in missed deadlines, frustrated clients, and missed revenue. On the other hand, your children deserve to have some dedicated fun time with you during their time off.

How to deal? Here are some tips for striking a healthy balance between summertime fun and what must be done.

When working from home, it’s essential to achieve a healthy separation between work time and family time. If you try to do both at once, neither will receive the attention it deserves. The key is planning ahead and using the flexibility to your advantage.

Regina:

Good tips! I could have used this two months ago, especially the "regular hours" part.

Let me just add: Try to enjoy having your family around. The kids won't always be underfoot. I keep reminding myself that having the freedom to be with my family is one of the reasons I chose to work from home as a freelancer.

These are really great tips…really love the one about going to the library. As a single mom working on becoming a full time wahm the library is a great hangout for both me and my son.

Awesome and insightful advice. Involving children and seniors in small repetitive tasks helps much. Look forward to more posts

Wendy - Regina Baker rocks! I just got introduced to Wahmcart a few days ago. In my book, it's a winner. :-)

Fantastic and sensible tips about doing the proverbial "juggling act" during the summer. I am feeling blessed and highly favored - My youngest are twin girls who just turned 18 years old a couple of days ago. No more little ones under foot. Can I hear an AMEN?!
